A MAJESTIC RESTORATION FROM ORNATE INTERIORSThis is a case study by CMG Member "PRomotion" There is an imposing Victorian hotel in the centre of Harrogate that truly is Majestic by name and majestic by nature! The Majestic Hotel, part of the Paramount Hotel Group, is set in twelve acres of landscaped gardens offering a traditional and relaxed environment for up to 760 guests. In 2007The Majestic announced a £3 million refurbishment to be undertaken by Ramparts Interiors Contracts of Birmingham. The restoration of a number of the ornate internal decorations have formed part of the project with Leeds-based traditional and fibrous plastering specialists Ornate Interiors Ltd called in to carry out a large portion of the restoration works. Jason Rider has just recently completed his three year apprenticeship with Ornate Interiors and was fortunate enough to be involved with the twelve month project. Jason takes up the story: “Restoration works took place throughout the hotel where various plaster mouldings were to be restored. “All cornice was manufactured to match existing back at our workshop but as the enrichments were so undercut, all embellishments had to be manufactured and embedded onto the cornice separately from the mould. This was extremely time-consuming but essential in ensuring a perfect match,” added Jason. Repairs were also made to a selection of ceilings and beams whilst other areas were supplied and fitted with a range of standard moulds taken from the Ornate Interiors range. Graham James, Projects Manager with Ramparts, commented: “The kind of work undertaken with the cornices and figurines is the domain of the skilled craftsman and that is what we look for on all of the contracts we undertake. “Ornate Interiors bring to the table an immense amount of experience of working within historic and notable landmarks such as the Majestic,” added Graham. Ornate Interiors’ site manager Steve Waterhouse went on “It was great to work on a well known prestigious building that was full of character. I feel that we have successfully contributed towards the maintenance of its grandeur. “We have worked for Ramparts for a long time and have developed a good working relationship with them. Their professional approach and emphasis on quality makes our job a lot easier!” he concluded.
